THE FLAG IS THE HONOR AND NAME OF THE NATION

(On the occasion of November 24 — National Flag Day of the Republic of Tajikistan)

REFLECTION:
It is a true blessing that Independence has opened new horizons and opportunities for the Tajik people. Thanks to the efforts of the Leader of the Nation, the President of the country, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the culture of national self-awareness and respect for national sacred values has been affirmed as one of the fundamental pillars of the nation’s identity.

It is important to note that the celebration of National Flag Day of the Republic of Tajikistan, held thanks to the wise initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, is a vivid symbol of state support for strengthening national consciousness and presenting our country to the world.

Today, we stand on the eve of a magnificent celebration — the day marking the adoption of one of the main symbols of our statehood — the National Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The national flag, which reflects the history, culture, and values of the Tajik people, was adopted unanimously by the deputies of the XVI Session of the Supreme Council of Tajikistan in the city of Khujand, under the leadership of the newly elected Chairman of the Supreme Council — respected Emomali Rahmon.

Our ancestors have had banners since ancient times, known as the “Diraffsh.” The Sassanid banner consisted of four colors: red, white, green, and yellow, each having its own symbolic meaning. The legendary heroes of Ferdowsi’s immortal “Shahnameh” — Rustam, Gudarz, Tus, Gew, Siyavush and others — each had their own banners.

Throughout history, the Tajiks used various flags; however, information regarding the flags of the Samanid state and later dynasties is limited.

Today, our duty is to raise the younger generation with deep respect for national values, national symbols, and the sacredness of the Homeland.

The Flag of Tajikistan, the symbol of independence and the first state emblem of sovereign Tajikistan, was officially adopted on November 24, 1992. It consists of three horizontal stripes: the upper red and lower green stripes are equal in width, with a white stripe in the center. On the white stripe, a golden crown and seven stars arranged in a semicircle symbolize the historical roots of Tajik statehood.

In 2011, the Tajik flag was included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the flag raised on the tallest flagpole in the world — 165 meters. Today it ranks second after Saudi Arabia. By the decree of the President, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, November 24 was declared National Flag Day. He also submitted a draft law amending the Law “On Public Holidays” for parliamentary approval.

It is a matter of pride that every year on November 24, National Flag Day is celebrated with a deep sense of honor and national dignity.

In conclusion, I warmly congratulate all of you and the people of Tajikistan on this sacred national holiday. I wish you clear skies, good health, and continued prosperity!
